65TH ANNUAL ALGONAC LIONS PICKEREL TOURNAMENT

WEDNESDAY, JULY 2ND

5:00 p.m. - the Grand Opening, rides, and concessions. Ticket sales for the Lion’s Boat Raffle are at headquarters. The baby and pet photo contest begins – contact Kelly at 794-3592 for more info.
5:00 – 11:00 p.m. - midway rides. Pay one price of $15 per wristband.
5:00 – 7:00 p.m. - voting for Pickerel Tournament queen and court at stage.
5:00 – 10:00 p.m. - K of C bingo at the Riverfront Park.
6:00 p.m - the children’s street parade.
6:30 p.m. - the children’s parade prizes awarded at the stage.
7:00 p.m. - Snoopy’s dog show – Categories are: pet-owner look-a-like, ugliest dog, talent show and more. Contact Tish at 794-4811 or Ada at 794-3700 to register before 06/30/03.
7:30 p.m. - the crowning of the Pickerel Tournament queen.

SATURDAY, JULY 5TH

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – kids fishing contest at the Riverfront Park. Registration begins at 8 p.m. Prizes awarded to both boys and girls. Children must be with an adult and wear a personal flotation device.

MORE ADVANCED STAGE MOVEMENT AND VOICE SKILLS WILL BE EMPHASIZED, AS WELL AS IMPROVISATIONS, CHALLENGES AND ADVANCED PANTOMINES TO COMMUNICATE SITUATIONS. STUDENTS WILL BEGIN TO INTERPRET AND PERFORM INDIVIDUAL SELECTIONS AND LEARN TO FORM A “VOICE” FOR THEIR READINGS AND CHARACTERS. CONTACT DRC FOR REQUIRED PRE-REGISTRATION AT 794-8896.

INTERMEDIATE STAGE – AN EIGHT WEEK CLASS FOR 14 TO 18 YEAR OLDS STARTING JUNE 17TH ON TUESDAYS FROM 7:00 PM TO 9:00 PM. COST IS $40.00.
THIS CLASS WILL TEACH THE EXPERIENCED STUDENT ACTOR AS WELL AS ONE NEW TO THE STAGE THE CREAFT OF BASIC ACTING TECHNIQUES, INTERPRETING AND FORMING A CHARACTER AND SKILS TO ENHANCE THAT CHARACTER. STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN A SELECTED MONOLOGUE TO PERFORM AS WELL AS ENJOYING PANTOMIME AND IMPROVISATIONAL GAMES. BACKSTAGE CREW AND THEIR INVALUABLE RESPONSIBILITIES WILL ALSO BE LEARNED. Basic Pistol Class ~ This is the third class of five sessions in a class room. Class is from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Cost is $25.00, which includes book, gun safety rules, and firearms training brochure, a certificate upon completion and one NRA membership application. Class size is limited and participants must be 12 years and older. NO live ammunition will be used! Earplugs and safety goggles will be provided. Contact the DRC at the AMS or call 794-8896.

Home Schoolers Resource Day held at the Algonac-Clay Library at 10:30 a.m. Network with other home schoolers and learn about the resources available at your library. Registration required! Contact the Algonac-Clay Library at 2011 St. Clair River Drive or for more information call 794-4471.

Get the Message ~ a computer class held at the Algonac-Clay Library starting at 10:00 a.m. This is a beginning class on how to use a web based email system. Familiarity with a web browser and how to use the mouse is helpful. Learn uses of email and to select an email system. Registration required! Saturday – 27th
Outdoor Landscape Drawing (with or without color) in charcoal, color pencil, oil pastel, dry pastel or water color from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. for 6 weeks at $50 for ages 12 to adult. Flag Football from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for ages 8 to 12 years. Practice and games with AHS Varsity. Cost is $20. Championship is October 25th. Contact DRC for more info at 794-8896.

Wacky Kayaky Contest starting at 1:00 p.m. at the DNR Public Access Site Entry Point. Cost is $5 per person and limited to 25 entries. Number of Heats dependent on number of Entries! *Paddling Backwards *One Side Only Paddling *Between Preset Buoys *Around “Grass Island” *Blindfolded (Judges Guide by Voice) *Dual Kayaks *Paddling with Hands The DRC is interested in forming a kayak club, sound like fun? Build A Flower Bed is a 6 week class at Algonquin Middle School from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at a cost of $35.00. Learn how to plan, prepare and plant from Advanced Master Gardener & Horticulturist, Walt Erbert.
