Algonac Police Department - Mission
Statement
It is the mission of every member of the
Algonac Police Department to provide the highest possible
level of service to the citizens of the City of Algonac
in a nondiscriminatory manner. It is the department's
mission not only to maintain order and control crime,
but to reduce the opportunity for crime and disorder,
to reduce citizen's fears, to provide a sense of security
for the people by protecting life and property, to protect
constitutional rights of all citizens, and to address
the root causes of crime through creative problem solving.
Operational Goals
To continue to improve and increase personnel within
the department to keep pace with growth. To promote
a positive image of the department with the citizens
and the general public. Effective policing requires
a partnership between the police and the community.
In maintaining a partnership, the department recognizes
the willingness of residents to share the responsibility
for maintenance of order and quality of life. Additionally,
to provide professional leadership and the necessary
support required to sustain and improve the community's
efforts to keep a balanced partnership directed against
lawlessness and disorderly behavior.

per person
B. Meeting with the public to set goals for better community
relations
To continue to improve and increase equipment
to stay abreast of technological advances such as updating
equipment. To deliver police services equitably, effectively,
and within the context of values in an environment of
increasingly scarce fiscal resources.
A. Computer technology
To promote existing systems to foster
a positive and enriching work environment that offers
career development, challenge and reward. To make the
department more open and friendly to the public, such
as the D.A.R.E. program, bicycle patrol, foot patrol
and fingerprinting children at the local schools.
A. More in-school programs with
the children to be officer friendly
To maintain an efficient and effective
organization for the delivery of police service in creating
a crime watch in the neighborhoods to report unusual
activity giving the community some control over their
situations.
A. Talk with the businesses and find out
what we can do to help keep crime down
B. Business concerns with the police department
To incorporate the principles of community
and problem oriented policing into the everyday duties
of the employee, and to work closely together with the
residents of Algonac in ways to solve the problems of
crime, the fear of crime, physical and social disorders
and neighborhood decay.
A. Be more open with residents for their
needs and safety
B. Show the residents how to keep safe in their homes
such as locks and perimeter lighting.
To develop strategies promoting teamwork,
unifying the efforts and goals of all members to foster
a sense of trust, integrity and a positive sense of
worth within the department. To have a set direction
to the officers for continued education so they can
reach their potential in specialized training in individual
officers for the advancement and improvement of the
department. To create a positive image with the police
officers themselves for better camaraderie.

B. Open door policy to implement better ways to complete
a task
C. Create a list of short, medium and long range priorities
and departmental
goals that will be activated by all members of the department
and updates
as to the department's progress in completing the goals
and priorities of
the department.
