Services Provided by the City
Clerk’s Office
The City Clerk’s main responsibility
is to serve as Clerk to the City Council. The Clerk
serves the Council by preparing Agendas and other material
for Council meetings; acts as official recorder of the
City Council actions and ensures follow-up, with regard
to Council action, is done in an expedient manner. The
City Clerk is the custodian of all official records
for City Council, Planning Commission, Zoning Board
of Appeals, Dangerous Building Commission, and Election
Commission.
The City Clerk administers the oath of
office; is custodian of the City seal and processes
Freedom of Information requests.
The City Clerk conducts all Elections
held within the City, in compliance with State, Federal
and local laws and maintains voter registration records
in conjunction with the St. Clair County Clerk’s
Office and State of Michigan Bureau of Elections.
Voter Registration and Elections
VOTER REGISTRATION
If you are not currently registered to
vote, or have changed your address in the City of Algonac,
you may do so in the office of the City Clerk from 8:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; Secretary
of State Branch Offices; specified agencies for clients
receiving services through Family Independence Agencies;
Department of Community Health; Michigan Jobs Commission
and some offices of the Commission for the Blind; military
recruitment offices for persons enlisting in the armed
forces; or by obtaining and completing mail in voter
registration application and forwarding it to the election
official as directed on the application. Mail voter
registration applications may be obtained by contacting
the City Clerk at 810.794.9361. A person who registers
to vote by mail is required to vote in person unless
they have previously voted in person in the City/Township
where they live, or are at least 60 years of age, or
are disabled.
ABSENT VOTER BALLOT INFORMATION
Absentee ballots are available for all
elections held in the City of Algonac. To obtain an
absentee ballot, an application must be filed with the
City Clerk. Ballots can be mailed until 2:00 p.m. the
Saturday preceding the election. A new application must
be completed for each election, except for General Elections.
For General Elections, a dual application is allowed
and offers the voter the opportunity to receive ballots
for both the Primary Election in August and the General
Election in November.
